Baxter is a software developer at The Kids with a strong background in mathematics. His current role in the team involves collaborating with other software developers and researchers to design, develop, and maintain software tools for infectious disease modelling, specifically individual-based models. This work will directly support innovative malaria research aimed at improving child health and wellbeing, with the potential to influence public health interventions and policies.
Prior to joining the team, Baxter worked in the mining sector, focusing on simulation products. He also has significant teaching experience in the high school setting and has run extension programs in both mathematics and in programming, inspiring young students to code and to find joy in solving hard problems. Baxter’s experience in software spans from low-level programming and interfacing with hardware, all the way up to networked application development and graphics programming. He has also used statistical analysis as a powerful tool for engineering performant and reliable systems.
Outside of work, Baxter enjoys outdoor activities and learning about how computers work.
